However, siting decisions and planning permission are often preceded by lengthy and controversial debates at local level. In order to achieve a high level of <strong>transparency<\/strong> in communication and thus <strong>acceptance<\/strong> among the population, the use of practical visualization tools can have a supportive effect.  <\/p>\n\n<p>The aim of the AR4WIND project was to analyse the needs, potential and impact of the use of mobile<strong> augmented reality <\/strong>visualizations in citizen participation processes. To this end, a pilot application was developed and tested in various test phases.
