The Rhenish mining region is preparing for the future risks of climate change by drawing up a climate adaptation strategy. In this way, the emerging challenges are to be overcome, particularly against the background of the extensive structural change in the opencast mining region.
Numerous stakeholders, private and public organizations from the region and citizens of the Rhenish mining district will be actively involved in the development and subsequent implementation of the strategy as part of a comprehensive participation process. Ideally, synergy effects between structural change and climate adaptation should be recognized and used efficiently within the framework of regional development.
